Hal Maxwell serves as President of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in New Jersey, Rockland County and Long Island, N.Y. In this role, he oversees the daily operations of the two companies’ 69 real estate offices with nearly 4,300 independent agents.
He is a real estate veteran who began his career as a sales associate in 1984 with Murphy Realty Better Homes and Gardens in Glen Rock, New Jersey. Highly skilled in marketing and sales negotiations, Maxwell was named Office Manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Ridgewood, New Jersey, in 1989, launching an illustrious career in management and senior leadership. By 1991, his office was among the five most successful company offices in the country.
In 1994, Maxwell was appointed Regional Vice President of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in New Jersey and Rockland County, New York, overseeing the Bergen County, New Jersey, and Rockland County, New York, sales offices. He was later promoted to Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager for Field Operations of the region.
A highly touted leader who is well-known for his culture-building expertise, Maxwell was appointed President of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Greater Baltimore in 2003. He also quickly assumed the same position for Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Greater Washington, D.C., which included the Virginia and Delaware markets and additional areas in Maryland. After showing exceptional leadership in those roles, he was appointed Regional Senior Vice President of NRT’s Mid-Atlantic Region, which included Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and Burgdorff Realtors® ERA companies.
In 2008, Maxwell was named Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the NRT Eastern Seaboard Support Center, a regional marketing and support services center serving seven Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and Burgdorff Realtors® ERA companies in the Northeast. Maxwell oversaw finance, marketing, relocation, field services, human resources, facilities and education support.
With a long and successful history of exceptional management and sales success, Maxwell was again chosen in June 2009 to lead NRT’s unification of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in New Jersey and Rockland County, New York, and Burgdorff Realtors® ERA. Having successfully led both brokerages previously, he was the ideal candidate to blend the two companies. In 2017, Maxwell was named among the “Most Powerful People in the Residential Real Estate Brokerage Industry” for 2017-18 by the Swanepoel Power 200.
Maxwell holds a marketing degree from the University of Colorado and is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, New Jersey REALTORS®, the Real Source Association of REALTORS® and the Morris County Board of REALTORS®. He also serves on the board of directors of the Garden State Multiple Listing Service. He resides in Chester, New Jersey, with his wife.
